About

Image

Burgundy Restaurant is situated inside two historic fishermen's cottages that date back to 1875.

In 1928 Miss Ethel Rubery from England bought the property and opened the Cypress Tea Garden, which she named after a big shady cypress tree that used to grow in the garden. In 1968 a fact-finding committee was formed to save the Cypress Buildings from being demolished, and this resulted in the buildings being declared a National Monument.

After being a landmark for decades, the tea garden evolved and in 1987 Tim Hamilton Russell, who pioneered Burgundy style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines, took ownership and established The Burgundy Restaurant.

Today, Burgundy Restaurant is owned by Rudolf van der Berg who together with his dedicated team invites you to join them for an experience not to be missed. Chef Rudolf strives to maintain the high culinary standards and impeccable service, that locals and patrons from all over the world have come to expect.

Chef Rudolf van der Berg can often be found out-and-about, bright-and-early, sourcing fresh seafood and wholesome produce that he uses to create his delicious meals.

A first stop is at the fishmonger at Whale Coast Fisheries where the latest catch is discussed and decided on. Added to this, it can proudly be said that Valley Farmstall, is as much a part of the Burgundy Restaurant team as the kitchen staff themselves. Fresh farm produce comes directly from the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, adhering to Burgundy’s mantra of colour, texture and flavour.
