Why Writing a Travel Bucket List is the First...
As we approach the end of 2024, we can't help but look ahead to what next year holds.
“De Hoop Collection is delighted to be hosting, once again the De Hoop Vlei MTB Experience from Friday 26 May to Sunday 28 May 2023”, announced William Stephens, owner of the De Hoop Collection, and chairman of Cape Country Routes, of which De Hoop Collection is a member.
In announcing the dates of the two day mountain bike stage race Stephens extended thanks to organiser Anneke Jacobs of Overberg MTB Events for all the effort she put into creating the routes for MTB 2022. “We received such positive feedback from all the cyclists about the routes,” he said.
According to Jacobs who is again organising this year’s MTB, riders will experience a weekend of untamed and challenging mountain biking in and around the spectacular De Hoop Nature reserve.
“While the riding is tough and definitely not to be underestimated,” she explained, “this is an iconic event and distinctively unique in that it gives riders the opportunity to experience wildlife and the unsurpassed beauty of the Western Cape’s flagship Marine Nature Reserve from the saddle. Entries are limited so riders need to book now to secure a spot for the ultimate experience and we encourage the bikers to bring their family and friends along for the ‘ride’.”
The *entry fee of R2 500 per person includes a weekend of extraordinary mountain bike riding in untamed territory.
Registration takes place at De Hoop Collection on Friday 26 May from 14h00 - 19h00, after which the weekend kicks off with a ‘Sunset Scramble’ to warm up the legs before the first stage on Saturday 27 May. Stage 1 showcases the mystical Ramsar De Hoop Vlei and Koleskloof area boasting 57km with 850m elevation, the terrain includes a limestone jeep track and rocky sections in places. Sunday’s Stage 2 (comprising 62km with approximately 750m elevation) takes riders to Potberg and the iconic Vaalkrans climb, before descending and indulging in the unspoilt coastline of De Hoop Nature Reserve. Riders will be passing Koppie Alleen and can enjoy some wildlife activity on their way back to De Hoop. A Goody Bag and event T-shirt are included in the rider entry fee (excludes meals, accommodation and the CapeNature entrance fee).
De Hoop Collection is offering a 40% discount for a 2 ½ night stay - guests may either check out late on Sunday or stay over on Sunday night (excludes dinner). Accommodation and meals (two breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners) from R2 299 per person sharing an Equipped Cottage. Terms and conditions apply.
