Activities

Land based whale watching:

In De Kelders we have a spectacular walking trail that is approximately 7 km long, and takes you from Stanford’s Bay right through to Die Plaat, where you can see the whales right next to the shore from June until December.

Boat based whale watching:

We like Dyer Island Cruises, where you can go out on their whale boat and be guaranteed whale sightings between July and December. If you’re lucky, you could even get to see the Humpback whale, as they prefer the deeper waters and can’t be seen from land. At Dyer Island, they approach the island close enough to view African penguins and other bird life.

Shark Diving:

Want an eyeball to eyeball encounter with a Great White Shark? You are in for much more than that on board Slashfin. Marine biologists and expert crew members will not only show you where these mysterious and misunderstood apex predators hunt and hide, but they will also explain to you how and where they feed, breed and breach. WOW what an experience that was for us!

Hiking:

Duiwelsgat hiking trail: A 7 km hiking trail from Gansbaai to ‘Die Plaat’ beach in de Kelders where you will find our beautiful landscape as well as our beaches, drip caves, whale watching as well as our spectacular Duiwelsgat caves and long, pristine white beach ‘Die Plaat’, where all the fisherman spend their time fishing and relaxing.

Quads:

Experience a unique quad trail with truly majestic views overlooking Dyer Island & Uilkraal valley and navigate through a unique indigenous forest. A must when you come to visit Gansbaai.

Land Rover Trips:

Land Rover trips can be booked on weather permitting days for sundowners on the nearby pristine beach, “Die Plaat” with a picnic basket & wine or cocktails

Restaurants:

Restaurants in the area include White Shark House, Blue Goose, Benguela and Kloeks @ home. For gorgeous beachfront lunches, we suggest the ever-popular, Coffee on the Rocks, which is only a 2 minute walk from 49-on-Cliff.
