The Gansbaai "canoe" is a copy of a mysterious dinghy that washed up on a Gansbaai beach many years ago.
Veteran fisherman, Oom "Pilla" Groenewald built a replica of this remarkably seaworthy craft for his own use, and the design was copied several times. Its most diistinctive characteristic is its truncated, high bow.
