Three major events will attract sporting fanatics and driving enthusiasts. There will be a MTB race, a trail run as well as challenging 4x4 tracks. The MTB race on the 13th September traverses fynbos conservancies and farms with magnificent views over the mountains to the sea. There are three options available from the 41km Monster (R160), a 30km somewhat less of a monster (R140) and the more beginner friendly 10km (R80).
The inaugural trail run on the 14th September takes place on the Fynbos Trail, a hiking route. The challenging 30km (R200) is usually hiked over 3 days and runners can be assured some challenging hills, boardwalks and wooden steps on the route. There is also a 10km (R100) for beginner runners and a family friendly 6km (R50) taking place through Platbos Forest. All finishers will receive a race medal and there are prizes for the first three male and female athletes for each route as well as lucky draw prizes for all participants.
The 4X4 routes are varied (rated from 2up) and all except Witblitz (5) require limited experience. Witblitz is for the more experienced driver with some slippery conditions and a steep gradient. Cost is R250 per vehicle if pre-booked and R350 on the day. Participation will assist towards funding for Flower Valley Early Learning Centre. This event will begin from Strandskloof Caravan Park.
This festival is for the whole family with many other activities on the same weekend. It will include activities such as mountain bike races and trail runs, fynbos displays, fynbos walks, a fresh water fishing competition, 4x4 routes, horse riding, local arts and crafts, quad biking, artesian food and wine tasting, restaurants and bars, reforestation, forest walks, sustainable fynbos harvesting demonstrations and much more. Luckily, Gansbaai has a wide variety of accommodations in the area to suit everyone's budget and make for a great weekend!
Save the date, you don't want to miss out on a great festival !
