With over 30 years of hands-on experience in riding instruction, natural horse training and trail riding, Sarah Coronaios would like to share her passion with you. An excursion on horseback with Gansbaai and Pearly Beach Horse Trails is undoubtedly the most pleasurable way to explore this secluded and pristine stretch of Cape Whale Coast. Our team of good-natured horses and ponies love the feel of the Pearly Beach beach sand under their hooves, the spray of surf in their manes and the sweet smell of indigenous Fynbos, making these trails a truly unique bonding experience between horse and human.
Rondebosch Riding School & Trails was established in 2006 on Farm Rondebosch, Louis Trichardt in Limpopo Province. From humble beginnings, starting with only three horses, the business grew to a stable of over 20 horses and ponies, offering a safe environment for riding instruction for all ages as well as trails in the area, training of horses, horse carriage for events such as weddings and much more.
Sarah and her husband Kos, finally closed doors on their restaurants, and opened the riding school as a family business on their smallholding below the beautiful Soutpansberg Mountain Range in the far north of South Africa.
After nearly twenty years of life in the northern region, the family relocated to the South Western Cape in 2017, bringing their equine family along, and continue to operate horse trails in the stunning Overberg area, with mountains and endless pristine beaches as the new backdrop to the business.
With horses of all sizes, shapes and descriptions, Sarah continues to offer wonderful equine experiences and memories in their new home.
There are also two well appointed, self-catering cottages available on the farm, more information under accommodation.
We are an environmentally friendly business, adhering to National rules with no vehicles on the beach, leaving only foot & hoof prints in the sand, and never to be forgotten memories with our clients.
Trails are suitable for all levels of riders, and novices are very welcome and encouraged to experience a beach ride with a possible swim in the ocean, if weather permits. With our horses in mind, a weight limit of 95 kg applies.

There are horses and ponies to suit riders of all ages and all levels of experience. When possible, our trails include a full photo/video package (drone & stills).
Embark on a relaxing ride from the farm and through dune forest, allowing you and your equine partner to bond. The dunes often provide unexpected surprises in the form of diverse bird and wildlife, interesting fynbos species, and beautiful flowers. Then it's onto the pristine stretch of coastline where you get to see first hand how Pearly Beach got its name. The long untouched beach is the perfect place to allow your horse to show you what true freedom is, and a canter or gallop is surely the most exhilarating way! Novice or nervous riders will be well looked after, and can enjoy a placid walk or more adventurous trot.
Weather dependent, guests will also have the opportunity to swim with the horses. This has to be one of the most unique experiences, that moment of buoyant weightlessness as your horse's hooves lift off the ocean floor and you swim bareback in the swell.

Experience the Cape Floral Kingdom at its best from your seat in the saddle as you enjoy the fauna and flora of Pearly Beach’s inland territory, including a beautiful crystal clear dam and the call of the African Fish eagle. This trail is a scenic bounty of magnificent indigenous fynbos including endemic Protea species, endless mountain and sea vistas, with the chance of spotting a proliferation of our local birdlife and animal species.

Witness an explosion of colour as the sun sets over Pearly Beach. Our stretches of untouched white sandy beaches and the azure Atlantic are a breathtaking backdrop on these memorable sundowner rides. Sunset & Full Moon Trail
This very special trail occurs only once a month, and is a magical adventure. Riders depart for the beach late afternoon, enjoy a ride along the white sand whilst watching the sky turn golden as the Sun sets over the ocean and the Moon rises over the mountains. A short drink and snack break, and the return along the silvery sand under the light of a huge full Moon, accompanied by the wonderous african nightlife chorus of crickets, frogs, owls and nightjars. Kos who accompanies all trails to take photographs and drone video, is also an astronomer, and can show you around the wonders of the Southern Hemisphere night sky.

For that extra special occasion, book a Champagne Trail. Follow the beach to a scenic spot, where you then dismount and enjoy a glass of bubbly and snacks, before returning.
This trail lends itself to couples or small intimate groups for special occasions such as proposals, anniversaries, birthdays, etc and besides a trail to the beach, also includes a finale with sparkling wine and finger foods. Return to the farm via vehicle.

Two well appointed, self-catering cottages are available on the farm. These allow easy access to Pearly Beach Village, Gansbaai, restaurants and shops, Kleinbaai for shark cage diving and boat cruises, and of course the beautiful unspoilt beaches of Pearly Beach. Central to exploration of many attractions including lighthouses, L'Agulhas, southern most tip of Africa, prehistoric sandstone caves, hikes and mountain bike trails in unrivaled scenery besides horse trails from the farm.
Relax in the tranquil environment of horse farm life, surrounded by fynbos covered hills and the pristine white sandy coastline of Pearly Beach at your doorstep. A premium whale watching spot annually from July through to November, where the Southern Right Whales visit to breed, birth and nurture their calves.

A trail ride with Gansbaai & Pearly Beach Horse Trails is tailored to suit our clients' requirements. The duration is usually in the vicinity of two and a half hours, and the pace is suited to the individual rider's experience. We pride ourselves on being able to accommodate mixed experience groups, allowing each rider to take home the special bucket list memories they desire.
Trails are suitable for all ages, (we usually recommend from age seven up, but this can be modified under certain circumstances), and for riders with all levels of experience. Beach rides are tide dependant. Riding hats are supplied and light refreshments are served for all trails. When possible, our trails include a full photo/video package (drone & stills).

Still on a high
My eight-year old, horse-mad daughter picked up the Gansbaai & Pearly Beach Horse Trails flyer in a restaurant ages ago and has been begging to go ever since. We had the most incredible morning and will treasure our memories of our beach ride forever - she is already asking when we can go again. Sarah and Kos are so welcoming and calm and immediately put me (the novice) at ease. I was sceptical about swimming with the horses but it was amazing and we came out of the water beaming. We learned so much and Sarah ensured that each of us was taken care of. As an added bonus, Kos takes the most fantastic photos so that you can relive your trip afterwards. Do not miss!

The best Beach ride ever!!!
This was my belated Bday gift and it was worth the wait and every penny. Sarah and Kos are such lovely and funny people and they really take good care of their horses and riders. The Premium Beach trail had it all: Walk through the nature, fast gallop on the beach and in the water, swimming with the horses and an adventurous gallop through the dunes. The drone picture package is amazing as it gives you insane pictures and videos of your ride with the beautiful panorama of Pearly Beach. What amazed me the most was Sarahs ability to split the same group into beginners, advanced and experienced and to let each of them gallop at their own pace and at the same time provide the needed safety. We had a lot of fun and the horses are in very good shape and Sahara is fast like a race horse. I really loved the use of trail saddles as well. Thank you for awesome 3 hours on the back of the horse where the happiness lies.

Magical day, just magic
We went out on the beach trail. Me my partner with no real experience, my sister with alot of experience and my 77 year old dad with some experience.
Sarah and her family are delightful and so much fun. They are profesional and makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. The trail are dreamy... The beachstretch serene. The farm and scenery are breathtaking but the highlight ofcourse are the horses. These beautiful loving warm tremendous majestic soulful beings stole are hearts and made us forget all our troubles for the time we spend with them. This was truly a precious and magical moment in time spent with the most special people and horses. Thank you Sarah for this special time. You were so accomodating. Must Do Beach Ride!
Truly one of the most enjoyable and fantastic experiences I’ve had the pleasure in being apart of. This family is truly wonderful and make you feel the love. If you have never ridden or have always loved to ride, this is the experience you must have. Riding from their home on a trail 15 minutes away from the beach onto the beach and into the ocean and even swimming with the horses while riding bareback is just out of the movies. I have never been on a horse that when taken into the ocean tide, just laid down and let the waves splash against it. Truly one awesome ride and one that will never be forgotten. Don’t pass this experience up! A must do! :)

Pearly Beach Horse Trails: We loved it!
This was one of our favorite days in South Africa! Sarah took us riding (myself and two friends). She is knowledgeable, personable, fun, and her horses are very well trained. The horses are so sweet and friendly! Pearly Beach is breathtaking. It’s such a wide beach and we were the only ones there! We even saw whales in the waves. We stopped for a snack on the beach and she provided us with drinks and snacks. Sarah’s husband followed us and took photos and drone footage, which they gave to us afterward.
I highly recommend Pearly Beach Horse Trails. It’s a unique and special experience that we all still talk about! We want to go back one day!

Best horse riding trip ever. This is the best horse riding trip I've ever attended. I registered trip advisor just to write this essay to thank Sarah's family for this wonderful experience.
4 people followed the riding group to take care of the guests and take amazing pictures with a drone. Sarah led the group, her warmness and humor made us relaxed since the beginning of the trip, and her professional guidance provided me with unrivaled assurance, I didn’t have to worry about anything. (I’m a novice with bad riding experiences elsewhere) I was totally safe and free to enjoy the beautiful flowering dunes and the beaches. Sarah also tried to teach me how to ride and encouraged me continuously.
Sarah made sure that all needs were attended to, and everyone who wanted a run or a swim with the horses got their chance, thus the 2hr trip actually lasted +4hrs. Swimming with the horses was a highlight that I loved, (weather dependent) the water’s cold, but once I was in there I didn’t wanted to come out. It’s only cold once you are out wet in the wind so pls prepare swimming suits or something to change, but you’ll be dry by the end of the journey anyway. Sarah guided us for the swim so she went into the pool with everyone, completely soaked for n times, can’t imagine how cold she was swimming again and again... feel sorry every time I recall this and I’ll definitely come back with proper gifts to thank her...
Very beautiful coastline, saw a whale around the swimming site, but actually found 2 whales in the drone’s picture later on, probably more. Snacks and drinks were provided @break. Received amazing photos and even a video few days after the trip.And they charge so little for doing so much, much less than the bad operators...

Magical Horse Ride
My 2 daughters (aged 12 and 9) and I did the Pearly Beach Horse Trail with Sarah earlier this week. I was nervous as I have not ridden for a very long time, but Sarah quickly assured me that the horse that I was to ride would look after me... and she did so beautifully. We started at a slow walk through some farmlands and coastal dunes. Once we got to the beach I was blown away. It was so beautiful, even though it was a cool and windy day. The girls canterd back and forth and had a wonderful time, while my old lady walked peacefully through the shallow waves. Sarah was very attentive to us throughout and we had a few good laughs. We stopped for some water and snacks ( that Sarah provided) at the halfway point and then ventured back to the stables. All of us had a most amazing time... all the girls could come up with was "Awesome!". I would recommend this outing to non riders and experienced riders.

Wonderful, personal and memorable
We booked the beach horse riding experience with Sarah on the same day and she excellently accommodated us. Starting on the beautiful, idilic farm we were introduced to the extremely well kept horses and how to ride. Before long we were riding along the stunning beach. They were very understanding of different abilities throughout and by the end we were all able to ride independently, trot and even try a canter. We were well supported and looked after throughout.
A fantastic experience, one of the best of our time in South Africa so far! Highly highly recommend!

Lovely afternoon horse ride
Had a brilliant time with Sarah horse riding. We rode to pearly beach, which was so beautiful. We walked the horses on the shore, trotted and cantered. She was very understanding about our minimal experience horse riding and talked us through what to do. We were led by her at first and then we got to ride without the lead. Would 100% recommend to anyone in the area.

One of the BEST kind!
One of the best riding experiences ever! Warm welcome. Horses in good temperament and well cared for. Each horse picked to fit each rider. Great scenery! It starts on farmland, then to fynbos, then some backroads and finally to the beach... which was absolutely amazing. And the bucket list was ticked by swimming with the horses into the surf. Amazing, totally safe and something to be remembered for years to come! The guide was knowledgable, greatly entertaining and had amazing knowledge to share as well as tales of old and titbits of the surroundings as we went along the route. Sarah, you were great. What an incredible experience!
I would not have believed that I would willingly go swimming with a horse but I did and loved every moment of it. Sarah has a strong relationship with her horses who were relaxed and enjoying it almost as much as we were. Its been over 20 years since i have sat in the saddle, but with Sarah's expert guidance and the gentle natured Troy it felt like i was back! A short dune forest stretch leads onto a long pristine white sandy beach that allows the horses room to trot canter or in my case a pleasant amble along taking in the scenery. At the end of the beach lies a quiet bay where to my delight the horses were led into the water for a swim, don't forget to leave your cell phone on dry land!!! What a unique experience for a novice or seasoned horse person. The whole amazing experience was about 3 hours and great value, I highly recommend this trip and will go again to blow out the cobwebs of normal life. i believe Sarah is planning a longer trail with overnight accommodation, please book my place NOW!

Amazing a must do!
I must say I’ve done a couple horse trails around and his is by far the best I’ve been on. The horses taken care if very well and are in great shape and very nice to ride. The trail gives you a taste of different terrain as you start at the farm and make your way through a green covered route to what is one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen. It has no garbage and very clean waters. No other places offer a swim on the horse which is something very unique to experience. The horses are comfortable in the water and go on up to their neck. Was truly the best horseback experience I’ve had and couldn’t reccommend it more! Photos are included in the ride and are wonderfully taken. They also have newly renovated cottage that’s is very private and pretty for anyone wanting to stay over. All this topped off by incredibly friendly guides and photographer made it a memory I’ll have forever.

Do you love horses and riding? Are you looking for the best volunteering program with horses in one of the most beautiful landscapes of South Africa?
As a volunteer with us, you will accompany daily riding tours for tourists along paradise-like white sandy beaches, through dune forests and the typical fynbos landscapes and mountains of Africa's southern coast. In addition, you work daily at the horse farm, feeding, grooming and caring for the horses and ponies, and helping with everything that needs to be done on the farm. You will live in the cosy volunteer house of high standards right on the farm. If you love horses, this volunteer placement is for you!
