Two suspects from Hermanus were arrested for the possession of abalone in the Paarl.
The two suspects were apprehended on 18 July 2016 at about 08:00 by the Paarl K9 Unit after entering Paarl via the Du Toitskloof Pass.
Police received an anonymous tip-off that a vehicle carrying abalone was travelling towards Cape Town. The suspects were spotted and pulled over. The search of their vehicle led to the discovery of 2,560 shelled units of abalone with a street value of R500,000.00.
Both men are due to appear in the Paarl Magistrates Court once they have been charged under the Marine Resources Act.
