The Overberg District Municipality (ODM), in partnership with ICLEI Local Governments for sustainability, launched the Overberg Wetland Report on 09 May 2017.
The event was attended by members of the District Municipality’s Council, the mayor of Cape Agulhas Municipality, the Municipal Manager of ODM and other stakeholders who contributed to the development of the Wetland Report.
The report includes the National Department of Environmental Affairs, the Western Cape Government’s Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning; Cape Nature; Department of Agriculture; Agulhas Biodiversity Initiative; Whale Coast Conservation; Flower Valley; Nuwejaars Wetland Special Management Area.
The Overberg District Municipality partnered with ICLEI as part of ICLEI’s Local Action for Biodiversity: Wetland South Africa Programme. The main focus of the programme is to guide, support, capacitate and motivate local governments and their partners to integrate biodiversity into all aspects of policy.
As part of the day’s events the Mayors of both the Overberg District Municipality and Cape Agulhas Municipality signed the Durban Commitment which is a commitment and model by local government, for local government and the communities they serve, to protect and enhance biodiversity at the local level.
