Tea for tigers

Tea for tigers

Gansbaai Courant

International Tiger Day is on Saturday, 29 July and Cat Nyquist and Lizaene Cornwall of Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary are planning something truly special!

They are inviting all their friends and supporters to host a benefit tea party in celebratetion of Tiger Day.

They have, amongst 9 lions, 1 leopard, 3 caracals and 3 jackals two beautiful tigers living at Panthera Africa, Raise and Arabella.

These two animals were rescued from a bone trade farm in South Africa where they certainly would have had an untimely death and their bones sold to markets to Asia to make potions and aphrodisiacs.

At Panthera Africa, the aim is to give these tigers the love and respect they deserve and to live out the rest of their lives in a peaceful enclosure where they are free to run and play. So far, funds were raised towards an eye operation on Arabella and to built a large platform and a dam for the cats who love to swim.

With the funds to be raised from the tea party, Cat and Lizaene plan to buy a new freezer to store meat for all their furry friends.

The cost of the freezer is approximately R60 000. If a surplus of funds occur, it will be put to good use to obtain enrichment toys for the tigers. The funds will also go towards vet check-ups and supplements to keep the animals in tip-top shape.

Their carers would like their extended human pride to join them in their fund raising, global Tiger Tea Party on Saturday, 29 July!

All their supporters need to do, is to host a tea party at their houses for a few friends.  Coffee shop and restaurant owners can organize a much bigger event. There are no limits to this Tiger Tea Party.

The host will sponsor the tea and cake and the privileged guests will contribute a minimum of R50 to the Panthera Africa fund. A video clip by Cat and Lizaene will be sent to all the hosts to be shown to spread awareness regarding the problems tigers face.

Children  will just love a Tiger Tea Party!

Panthera Africa’s goal is to have 100 tea parties all over the world! If each person invites 10 friends at R50 per person, that means they will raise R50,000 on one day.

One reader stands a chance to win 2 entrance tickets at Panthera Africa, which is situated near Stanford.

Answer the following question and sms your answer to 082 561 8655, accompanied by your name and surname.

Closing date: 24 July 2017.  What is the two tigers’ names, living at Panthera Africa? The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
