The Overstrand Conservation Foundation, trading as Whale Coast Conservation (WCC), is a member-based, non-governmental organisation (NGO) and is registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO).
The vision of WCC is the Cape Whale Coast community to be a vibrant, environmentally and sustainable community.
The mission of WCC is to unify, coordinate and promote environmentally sustainable living in the Cape Whale Coast region of the Western Cape.
The main objective of WCC is to facilitate, promote and coordinate the sustainable use and management of the environment and heritage resources.
Focus of operations
The operations of WCC are divided into four focus areas: Eco-Management; Eco-Learning; Eco-Living; Eco-Community.
WCC has developed a Youth Environment Programme (YEP) that supports schools in the Overstrand to provide quality and inspirational environmental education.
WCC operates throughout the Cape Whale Coast region and beyond into other areas where such operations: Are necessary to achieving objectives within the Cape Whale Coast; Are a logical and natural extension of activities within the Cape Whale Coast; Do not compromise the OCF’s capacity to effectively perform within the Cape Whale Coast; Offer learning or partnership opportunities of mutual benefit; Protect principles or policies that, if undermined outside of the Cape Whale Coast, might jeopardise the achievement of objectives within the Cape Whale Coast.
The Green House
The Green House outside Hermanus offers great facilities for meetings, seminars, lectures, conferences and children’s holiday activities and parties.
An 80-seater auditorium, fully equipped with data projector and sound, is available.
The Green House is the hub of the learning programme with themed exhibits and learning resources, eco-holiday youth programmes, adult eco-education and research work.
