Last Friday around 11:20, SAPS members in conjunction with the Department of Forestry and Fisheries executed an operation in Downing Street, Hawston, after receiving information of illegal activities. When the members carried out a search at the identified house, they found 3125 abalone in the garage. They arrested a 19 year old female who was at home, the time of the operation. She is being detained at Hermanus police station and will appear in the Hermanus Magistrate’s Court on Monday (2014-04-14). The estimated street value of the abalone is unknown at this stage and the abalone was handed over to the inspectors of the Department of Forestry and Fisheries.
