Schneider’s Cape Floral Kitchen

Flavours Of The Cape Floral Kingdom

Schneider's Cape Floral Kitchen, a one-of-a-kind restaurant between Gansbaai and Stanford in the Overberg, welcomes you to a Cape African dining experience. Presented by Michelin chef Jürgen Schneider and his wife Susanne, Schneider's Cape Floral Kitchen boasts showstopping views of Walker Bay from its perch on a fynbos-covered mountain. There is an eclectic mix of dishes to suit different palates, and courses focus on seasonal ingredients, many of which are foraged from the surrounding area. Be prepared to be introduced to the unique flavours of dune spinach, wild sage, buchu and seaweed married with traditional favourites. To compliment the magnificent setting, Schneider’s Cape Floral Kitchen exhibits the works of local South African artists in the restaurant and at a separate art gallery. Schneider's Cape Floral Kitchen has seating arrangements for 26 people inside and 12 outside on the covered veranda, is fully licensed with a wine list focused on the area's top varieties, and is available for private functions.

About

“A restaurant is a place of happiness where people should meet, forget about the outside world and enjoy life. You may forget a dish, but you will never forget a wonderful evening spent with people you love! We are happy to welcome you!”

Chef Jürgen Schneider and his wife, Susanne, welcome you to Schneider's Cape Floral Kitchen.

The couple has worked together in restaurants and hotels around the globe, for over 40 years. They say Schneider’s will be their last. Their deep passion for hospitality means that even on days they aren’t at the restaurant, you will find them entertaining guests at their home in De Kelders.

Jürgen

Jürgen received a Michelin star over two decades ago, and includes top kitchens at Kempinski Berlin, Kempinski Gravenbruch, Kempinski München, Intercontinental Hannover, Princess, Hotel Bermudas, Castel Royal in Spain, Sporthotel Achental and Gutshaus Stolpe among his repertoire. He also lists being self-employed in Wetzlar at Tapferes Schneiderlein and in Schriesheim with the Strahlenberger Hof as stop-overs on his culinary journey. When he isn’t sourcing fresh ingredients from his suppliers, Jürgen enjoys going on foraging hunts.

Susanne

Susanne met Jürgen while she was busy with her cooking diploma after she completed her Hospitality Management exam. She joined Jürgen in different hotels and
restaurants as a manager or director for many years. Fondly known as “Busy Lizzy”, Susanne describes her job title as “around-the-clock disaster manager”. Also a holder of the WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) diploma and co-owner of a company in Germany that is the biggest importer of South African Gins, Susanne still finds time to host guests at her eco-friendly B&B in De Kelders.

The service was friendly, personal and professional. The food was excellent. There is a great variety in the three to six-course tasting menu (you choose how many courses you want). We enjoyed the flavours, texture and presentation. I recommend Schneider’s for a special night out!”  Michelle Readwin

“For us, Jürgen and Susanne's restaurant was the absolute highlight of gastronomy during our trip to South Africa. The ambience at Schneider’s Cape Floral Kitchen is exceptional with a beautiful ocean view. The restaurant is on the mountain, and we had an amazing sunset. The menu was a dream, both visually and in terms of taste. Jürgen is an artist. The wine selection is also indescribable, and Susanne was there to help and advise us. The service team was also very attentive and friendly. Many thanks for the great, unforgettable evening.”  Heidi Herchet
“What a treat it was to go out and enjoy such a unique, delicious and extraordinary meal at Schneider's Cape Floral Kitchen. I don’t think we have ever had anything quite like this!”  Ahdina A
“What to expect when the former Michelin Star Chef Jürgen Scheider opens a restaurant? Susanne Schneider personally welcomed us at Schneider's Cape Floral Kitchen. Sundowner aperitifs with a breathtaking view in the direction of Walker Bay. Delicious "greetings from the kitchen" set the mood. The fireplace crackled in the stylishly renovated restaurant and paintings by South African artists adorn the walls. The choice of four to six courses spoils the palate and eye equally. Some of the ingredients are foraged and explained by Chef Jürgen Schneider himself. The confluence of fabulous food and a wonderful ambience, combined with gracious hosts and courteous service staff, is hard to beat. Thank you very much, we will be back soon!”  Daniel K
“Schneider’s Cape Floral Kitchen is an outstanding food and wine experience. The venue, service, food and wine were all memorable. One of our party, a seasoned global traveller in the luxury category, put the meal in his all-time top five. The wine is the best value for money I have ever seen on a quality wine list.”  David C
