Join the Hike

We are a group of people who get together once a month to enjoy a walk. We either walk along the shore line or in the local mountains. As long as you are reasonably fit you should manage, none of our walks are considered to be very demanding.

We usually meet at the Gansbaai Tourist Office on a Saturday morning at 08h00 or 07h00 in the Summer months.

We are a non-profit club but do ask a small fee to cover petrol costs with the balance either going to the land owners as a thank you for letting us have access or to a local charity.

All of our walks are checked over beforehand and each hike has a designated hike leader.

We endeavour to communicate our walks via the local media, Gansbaai Courant, Standford Rivertalk and the Hermanus Times. We also try and include a hike report back each month in each of these publications.

Our objective & basic rules

Our objective is to keep the club informal but understand that whenever you have a group of people together you must have some basic rules.

1. The hike leader is the designated (responsible) person for the hike, please listen to and adhere to their instructions.
2. Take away only memories leave behind only your foot prints.
3. Most hikes are approx. 10kms and take about 4hrs. Closed walking shoes are recommended as the terrain can be rough.
4. It is recommended that you bring a snack and something to drink with you.
5. It is also recommended that you carry a coat/jacket, particularly on the mountain walks as the weather can close in fast.
6. A hat and sun cream are also useful to have.
7. The club is NOT affiliated to any organisation and as such does NOT have any insurance. Each walker will be requested to sign an indemnity form prior to commencing every hike.
8. Our objective is to encourage people to get out and enjoy nature and meet new friends. We are not a fitness club and no competitions are involved. No prizes for first to finish.
9. The hike leader will try and regulate the pace to accommodate the slowest walker please be understanding and patient.
