Welcome...
... to The Ark Bed & Breakfast, one of the oldest buildings in Pearly Beach. If you are looking for peace and tranquility, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, then come and stay with us. The Ark is just a stone's throw from endless white, sandy beaches, which offer brilliant whale watching opportunities (in season). Whether you are on holiday or business, we offer you a space where you can have a relaxing break. Ideally situated on the new Whale Coast Route, between Gansbaai and Cape Agulhas, on the R43, many of our guests start or finish their Garden Route adventure with us.
Whales...
Being so close to the sea and the beach, in season all you have to do is take a stroll over the sand or sit on one of the clifftop seats and watch in wonder at the magnificent whales in the bay. During the months of September through to November you will witness displays of spyhopping, lobtailing, breaching and general 'having fun' by these creatures. You might even hear them as you lay in bed at night. Fancy an even closer look at these creatures? Ask us to sort you out a whale watching boat trip, so you can get 'up close and personal' with them.
...and Sharks
The sharks are a little harder to spot from land! To make it easier for you, we have teamed up with one of the best shark cage-diving boats in South Africa - Nemo! Ask us to organise your trip for you, and we will get you a great price!
Why Pearly Beach?
Pearly Beach is a hidden gem - that's the opinion of our visitors.
The village sits on the Cape Whale Coast route - here in our bay, and just off our shores, is one of the biggest concentrations of Southern Right Whales. It's the perfect place to come and see these whales in season (June - December).
We also have four different species of resident dolphins along our coastline.
The area is a bird-watcher's paradise.
If you are a fynbos-lover, come and see our new indigenous village garden. Pearly Beach sits within the Walker Bay Nature Conservation Reserve, which is why you won't get jet ski's or power boats tearing around the seas here, or quad bikes hurtling along our roads. Driving cars on the beach is strictly forbidden.
Preserving our little piece of nature is very important to us - just pay a visit to our village Herbarium or the Marine and Coastal Kiosk to see how much we care.
The lack of street lighting around the village is deliberate - we want to continue to witness the awe-inspiring Milky Way at night.
The beaches are white, sandy expanses, that you can walk along for hours, sometimes without ever seeing another person.
You can swim or play in the sea, fish from the beach or rocks, or just soak up the sun.
In the evening, you can eat at one of the local restaurants and sample some of the fish caught that day from our bay!
This all means that you get the perfect place to chill out, relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of being in one of nature's little gems of a hideaway.
So, whether you start or finish your adventure with a stay at The Ark B&B in Pearly Beach, you shouldn't be disappointed!
Guided beachcomber walks
Pearly Beach is proud to boast that it has its own resident marine ecologist. Jason will take you on a tailor-made walk along the beach and dunes, and amaze you with sights of creatures small and large, show you historical sites and open up a whole new world to you! Ask us to contact him or go directly to Beach Comber Trails You will not be disappointed - it really is a trip of a lifetime.....he will astound you with what there is to see on the 'beach'!
Bird watching
Pearly Beach and the surrounding land is a mecca for bird watchers. Not only do we have the coastal birds, but the area is rich with those birds that love the fynbos, and those that fly high up into the skies as well! Mr Noah is an avid 'twitcher' and has spotted over 150 different species in and around the village to-date. He will be glad to sit with you, and tell you when and where to see the different species. He will help with the identification of the difficult sightings and he even has a Bird List pamphlet you can have if you want to mark down your own sightings. So, come and see the endangered African Black Oystercatcher on our beaches, and catch a dazzling glimpse of the sunbirds and sugarbirds, then check out the fantastic weavers as they build their upside down nests, as well as all the others.
Shark cage diving
Pearly Beach is just 20 kilometres from the shark cage diving capital of the world! This is a spectacular adventure that is surely on just about everyone's bucket list nowadays! We have teamed up with one of the best and most professional shark cage boat companies in the business to provide you with this special experience. If you ask us to book your dive for you, two things will happen - firstly, we will get you a really good price. Secondly, Mr Noah will get up early, if necessary, to serve you breakfast before you go.
Whale watching
The Southern Right Whales come to breed and play in Pearly Beach every year. They usually arrive during June and stay until December. They come to the bay that The Ark B&B overlooks, and they can be seen just 50 metres from the shore. Purpose-built seating, with brilliant vantage points, are positioned just around the corner from us for prime viewing. If you ask Mr Noah nicely, he might even take you up to the whale deck at The Ark, where you will have a panoramic view of the whole bay from Quoin Point in one direction and Danger Point in the other, and of course you'll get to see the whales too. If you want to get really close to these huge, incredibly gentle creatures, ask us to arrange a boat-based viewing trip for you. It will be an experience you will never forget, and you'll get some great photos. It's a very worthwhile trip, especially as you may even see dolphins as well.
And lots more
Seemingly endless, white sandy beaches and rockpools - just right for playing, walking, swimming, fishing, and generally having fun, stretch on for over 10 kilometres in both directions from The Ark B&B. The southernmost, indigenous forest in Africa is just 30 minutes' drive away, and well worth a visit. You have to go to the southernmost tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas, and see where the two oceans meet. Perhaps you fancy climbing the Danger Point lighthouse and admiring the amazing view. We have great wineries locally, quad biking , horse riding, and small cosy restaurants tucked away in the mountains. Or just ask us for some ideas!
The Ark is situated on the highest dune in Pearly Beach, walking distance to the beach.
It consist of 3 rooms and can host a maximum of 7 guests, these rooms are on the ground level and is seperate from the owners living area. Thus very private.
The Ark has a Whale Deck and the guests are welcome to view the Whales from the deck when they visit Pearly Beach between September-November.
