The Boathouse opened in 2013 in a historic building that has always been a harbour pub.
In 2023, Charmaine Cooke took ownership when she relocated to Gansbaai from Fochville. She and her fiancé Willie had visited the area often for holidays and when the restaurant went on the market, they decided to buy it.
When Charmaine isn’t serving clients and cooking up a storm, she enjoys taking her dog for long walks on the beach.

We popped in as one of the stops for a friend's bachelor party and ended up staying much longer than planned, abandoning our original plan to bar-hop. The staff and owner are some of the coolest, most accommodating and kindest people I have ever met. We were warmly greeted upon entering and treated almost like old friends until we left.
