About

About

Just over half an hour's drive from Cape Town International Airport, Sir Lowry’s Pass weaves its way over the Hottentots-Holland mountains and through the Kogelberg Reserve, one of the world’s most diverse biospheres.

Making your way to Elgin / Grabouw, the Kogelberg and Groenland Mountains create a natural amphitheatre of beauty to enhance your trip.

In the era before the advent of modern roads, Elgin stood as a secluded enclave, cut off from the outside world. Access to the fertile valley was via a hazardous ox-wagon trail. The trail remains etched into the mountainside and is still visible.

Large apple and pear orchards rimmed with rambling roses line the main route, with vineyards gracing the rolling hills. The area is one of the largest exporters of deciduous fruit, and the remarkable quality of its cool-climate wines has taken the world by storm.
