All Aboard - Destination Elgin Railway Market!
There can be no better way to create memorable journeys than by vintage steam train...
The Elgin Railway Market venue was an old apple warehouse converted and carefully renovated to create a bustling Steampunk-meets-Art Deco showpiece.
History
The original building was built by Italian prisoners of war in the 1940s and the concrete tapered columns, and curved box gutters, bear testimony to the skill of these bygone craftsmen.
Traders at Elgin Railway Market include retail, food and drink.
The trading hours at Elgin Railway Market are as follows:
The Ceres Rail Company offers a magical return trip to the Elgin Railway Market aboard a historic passenger train. For most trips the train is hauled by heritage steam and diesel locomotives however, on occasion, two diesel locomotives do the haul.
Passengers will enjoy a three-hour rail experience across the Cape Peninsula, up Sir Lowry’s Pass, and then down into the Elgin Valley in the Overberg. The destination is the fabulous Steampunk-meets-Art Deco-inspired Elgin Railway Market where passengers can disembark and spend a few hours at their leisure.
