Hemingways Bookshop has been favourably compared to Shakespeare & Company in Paris, an historical locale which was visited in the pre-war era by famous authors such as Ernest Hemingway himself.

In 1995, the centenary year of the iconic writer’s birth, Beth and Noel Hunt established Hemminways Bookshop.

Beth is a published writer who hails from the Eastern Cape. Her writing achievements include taking second place in the prestigious Pen Studzinski Literary Award judged by Nobel laureate, J M Coetzee. 

Beth’s publications include:

  • Hermanus (coffee-table book) - published in 2008
  • Hermanus: Whales, Wine, Fynbos, Art - published in 2017

When she is not busy writing her eagerly awaited novel, this multi-talented artiste who speaks French fluently, enjoys Middle Eastern dancing. 

Noel spent most of his youth growing up in central Africa. His deep love for books is hereditary and both his grandfather and father had ‘home libraries’ overflowing with thousands of publications. When he is not reading his latest literary find, Noel enjoys being creative and specialises in African portraiture.

Hemingways Bookshop is proud to be a member of SABDA (South African Book Dealers Association) and has been featured in the New York Times, Country Life, Getaway magazine and is included in the Lonely Planet Guide. In 2013 they were chosen by Louis Vuitton to be featured in their 2013 Cape Town City Guide.
