Hermanus Botanical Society

HBS has been in existence for over 60 years and during this time, has made a very significant contribution to the care and celebration of the environmental treasures in Fernkloof Nature Reserve. The gardens at the main entrance have been laid out and maintained by a dedicated team of HBS volunteers. The Visitors Centre at the start of the hiking paths is stocked weekly with fresh specimens of the plants in flower for the education of all hikers interested in knowing more about the plants they see on their walks. An internationally recognised herbarium houses a collection of over 4000 species and a Research Centre provides opportunities for identification and study of the fynbos and all the creatures that inhabit it. Members can enjoy guided botanical walks and talks of environmental interest and the Fernkloof Indigenous Nursery services for all who would like to establish waterwise fynbos gardens.
