Derived from the Dutch term for moonlight, Maanschijn is an artisanal wine produced and bottled by hand inside a heritage building below a tall mountain peak known as Maanschynkop, on the Walker Bay coast outside Hermanus. Once the grapes are selected from vineyards that stretch from Botriver to Stanford, this low intervention and naturally fermented wine is created using handmade equipment. Two friends, Paul Hoogwerf and Douglas Mylrea, have created a wine that is distinctively fresh and uniquely South African. Their wine tastings are as unique as the wine and can be enjoyed in the heritage building where they are produced. Contact Maanschijn to arrange your tasting by appointment only.
