Overstrand Municipal Waste Management and Gansbaai Tourism are inviting residents to a special public tour of the Gansbaai Recycling Plant on Saturday, 20 September 2025, with tours scheduled for 10:00 and 11:00, in celebration of International Coastal Cleanup and Recycling Day.
For those who haven’t seen it before, this is a unique opportunity to see firsthand how waste is sorted and recycled, and to understand how small efforts, like separating wet and dry household waste, can truly make a difference to the environment.
After the tour, everyone is encouraged to join one of 12 community cleanups taking place across the area - from De Kelders to Pearly Beach and Baardskeerdersbos. For details about meeting points and other info, please contact Gansbaai Tourism on 028 384 8336.
The weekend continues on Sunday, 21 September, with Zero Emissions Day - a global initiative that encourages individuals to reduce their carbon footprint for just one day. Walk, cycle, or carpool instead of driving. Switch off lights and unplug unused devices. Follow the 5 R’s: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot (compost).
Let’s stand together as the Overstrand community to give the Earth a well-deserved break. Even small actions can help slow the rate of global warming - every step counts.
