Quayside Cabin

Quayside Cabin is a seafood restaurant at the lower slipway in Hermanus New Harbour. Specialising in sustainably sourced fish, crustaceans, and molluscs, guests can enjoy ocean-fresh critters prepared to perfection. If you’re after an authentic harbour experience, this is as good as it gets. With gulls flying overhead and the colourful bustle of fishing boats, it’s loved by fisherfolk, pirates, and the people who love them. The menu features everything from snoek samosas and prawns to line fish and calamari prepared in countless ways! Generous seafood platters come in various sizes, including a massive 1.4-metre platter that serves six. Shiver me timbers, you have to see it to believe it! Then there’s the kiddies’ menu with petite portions of fishy favourites just for the little ones. Quayside Cabin is fully licensed and ideal for private functions for up to 65 people.

Quayside Cabin first opened its doors in 2003 and has since become a favourite harbour-side dining spot for both Hermanus locals and visiting seafood lovers.

In 2022, Herman van Tonder took ownership after relocating to Hermanus from Limpopo with his wife, Karlien.

Herman, who also owns Mbizi Game Lodge and Spa in Bela Bela, has been deeply involved in the hospitality industry since 2007. His passion for great food and hands-on approach shine through in every dish, as he and his chef craft a menu that lies at the heart of the Quayside Cabin experience.

“If you are looking for a good seafood place in Hermanus, then the Quayside Cabin is the place for you. They have a large selection of dishes to choose from. As we were a group of six we decided to go for the platter for six. It was definitely the right decision. Firstly it looked impressive when it arrived, and secondly, it was packed with a great selection of seafood and sides, so everyone could get a taste of everything. There was so much that we struggled to finish it all. We saw some of the smaller platters going to other tables and they also looked pretty good. The restaurant is located in the new harbour and is quite small so I definitely recommend that you make a booking, especially if you go in summer. The restaurant is decorated in a true rustic sea-cabin style and has a very energetic atmosphere and buzz. We had such a great time that I am sure we will be back there soon.
