Sandbaai Community VID

The Sandbaai Community Voluntary Improvement District (SCVID) is a community-driven, non-profit initiative formed by residents who are frustrated with rising crime and slow municipal responses. SCVID’s mission is to create a safer, cleaner, and better-maintained Sandbaai by empowering locals to take action now. Membership is open and free to all residents and property owners, with contributions kept completely voluntary. Independent from the municipality, SCVID allows its members to collectively decide on priorities and vote on the initiatives that matter most. Operated with full transparency, the organisation provides regular progress reports to ensure accountability, and collaborates closely with local organisations and businesses. SCVID exists for the community, by the community, giving Sandbaai the power to shape its own future.

What is the SCVID?

Frustrated by rising crime and slow municipal responses, local residents have come together to launch the Sandbaai Community Voluntary Improvement District (SCVID) — a bold, non-profit initiative to make the neighbourhood safer, cleaner, and better maintained.

All residents and property owners in Sandbaai can become members.
Join for FREE. Contributions are completely voluntary.
SCVID is independent from the municipality. Objectives are determined by SCVID members.
⁠Members vote on initiatives to help decide what needs to be done in Sandbaai.
SCVID is controlled by the community and is open, honest, and transparent.
Members will have access to progress reports for full accountability.
We work hand-in-hand with other organisations and companies in Sandbaai.

Funding

SCVID is not forcing a tariff on anyone. We depend on donations from the Sandbaai community. We believe that when people see the difference we are making, they will contribute to the safety and improvement of Sandbaai. How much you contribute is your choice.

Membership is FREE. Contributions are completely voluntary. You choose based on your budget.
No mandatory tariffs or fees going up every year.
No hidden fees or additions to your municipal statement.
Members can make once-off donations or set up a monthly contribution. You can adjust your monthly contribution or cancel at any time.
The SCVID is registered as a non-profit company (NPC), fully SARS-compliant, and independently governed by Sandbaai residents.
Members will have access to budget and financial audits.
Members vote on how funding is used.
Donors can earmark once-off donations for specific improvements.
The more donations we get now, the faster we can implement the improvements.

Crime

Safety is a major concern in Sandbaai right now. The SCVID will work to prevent crime before it happens by:
• Complete coverage of Sandbaai with an advanced camera network on fibre.
• Cameras employ advanced Artificial Intelligence and will be monitored 24/7.
• Alerts will be shared with all participating security companies and the Sandbaai Neighbourhood Watch.
• WhatsApp Spotters groups alert you when there is suspicious activity near you.
• Patrollers will work together to respond rapidly and effectively.

Improvement

Whether it is community clean-ups, greenbelt restoration, damaged infrastructure, or making Sandbaai more welcoming, there is always room for improvement. There are already volunteers in Sandbaai doing great work. Rather than replace them, SCVID will help them by spreading the word, getting more volunteers on board, and assisting in fundraising. Where there is no plan currently in place for an improvement that members have voted for, SCVID will enact a plan to get it done. Have a suggestion for improving Sandbaai? We want to hear it!
