Star Search Overstrand is an annual competition where young performing artists share their talents with the community, and have the chance to be featured on Cape Town TV.
The auditions for the final event at The Stanford Festival of Community Arts are a fun and inclusive space for music, dance, poetry and more.
Participants from 13 to 28 years old are awarded points based on originality, cultural expression, technical skill and audience engagement.
After the auditions, the selected finalists are invited to perform in the finals.
Several winners are awarded spot prizes at the finals, and a small group of older finalists will be invited to join a mentorship program.
Besides empowering local musicians, singers, dancers and other talented performers, the event and its contestants aim to inspire others to follow their dreams!
Star Search Overstrand is affiliated with Creative Skills Factory, a non-profit organisation that aims to teach children social and emotional skills as a foundation for life.
An experienced occupational therapist runs ECD (early childhood development) programs in schools and crèches with the aim of school readiness. With this as their objective, Creative Skills Factory supports the children’s families, caregivers and teachers.
Moreover, the NPO goes the extra mile to achieve its objective by hosting after-school programs to enhance learning and teaching, in an educational and community-based setting.
