The Global Challenge 2018

Inspiration And Generosity Through Golf

The Global Challenge is a professional women's golfing tournament that is held annually in Hermanus, South Africa. Players from the Southern and Northern Hemisphere unite at the Hermanus Golf Course where they tee-off in pursuit of lifting the Ralph Walton trophy for their Hemisphere. With no prize fund included into this event, these dynamic professionals are at the same time using this platform to raise monies for charity in a campaign known as #BangTheDrum.

Nominated beneficiaries for 2019 will be The Full Tummy Fund, Learn to Earn, Just Care and Overstrand Persons with a Disability. Each of the participating teams will include a world-class sportswoman who has overcome challenges placed on her caused by a physical disability.

The Global Challenge starts with a line up of exciting events for the public to meet the players, such as 'The Champions Dinner' hosted at The Ocean Basket, Hermanus on Thursday evening 8th Nov that will include a cabaret show by Janet Marshall. A 'Beach Party with the Pros' down at Dutchies Beach Restaurant on Saturday evening 10th Nov from 6pm and a chance to get on par at the opening ceremony with a live 'Mango Groove Concert' at Hermanus High School, where gates open at 5pm with plenty of food stalls and pre entertainment by DJ Shark Lady, before Mango Groove take to the stage at 7pm. For over thirty years Mango Groove with lead singer Claire Johnston have successfully managed to instigate music lovers worldwide to bouts of unintended and spontaneous foot tapping, steering wheel drumming and even full out dance manoeuvers when subjected to the band’s distinctive kwela and Merabi influenced beats, goosebump causing penny whistle solos and Claire Johnston’s powerful voice which together have become the soundtrack to the Rainbow Nations feeling of Ubuntu, peace and goodwill.

Mango Groove will be forever remembered when they took to the stage in 1994 as part of Nelson Mandela's Inauguration Concert where they received three encores.

Now, for one night only, Claire Johnston and Mango Groove invite you to join them for a concert not to be missed! For more information and to book your tickets contact The Global Challenge directly or book via The Global Challenge website. Tickets are also available at Hermanus High School or at the Hermanus Tourism offices.

#BangTheDrum

The Global Challenge #BangTheDrum campaign gives golfers a platform to raise money for charity by doing what they love and do best which is playing golf. Together with the help of sponsors and organisers, the players are setting out to reach their goal of raising R300,000 for charity.

The professionals are appealing to their global sporting fans to show their support by making a small financial pledge in support of their favourite player. All the players involved have generously donated their time and there will be grand total of absolutely no prize money for the winning team as they are playing for the honor of representing their hemisphere.

The Full Tummy Fund

This year #BangTheDrum has named The Full Tummy Fund, Learn to Earn, Just Care and Overstrand Persons with disabilities as the beneficiaries of the funds raised by the professionals.

For more information about how you can #BangTheDrum and help the professionals raise money for charity, contact The Global Challenge directly.

Your support makes every shot we make on the fairways of Hermanus during The Global Challenge so very worthwhile.
