Custard Tarts, Cinnamon Buns, and More!
Craving something tasty? Broodstories has a wonderful selection of baked goodies that you’ll love! ...
Broodstories’ Hilda van Wyk started baking from home during the lockdown in 2020 for her family and friends.
Each day, the demand for Hilda’s bread grew until the availability of yeast became an issue. It was then that Egor, her name for her sourdough starter, was born.
Very soon, she started selling her loaves of bread in essential shops, and so the story goes on until the thriving home bakery needed more space.
After relocating to a designated shop on the Main Road of Kleinmond, Broodstories opened to the public in 2022.
Since then, Egor has grown into a friendly dough monster filling two buckets!
When Hilda isn’t spending quality time with Egor, she enjoys painting, drawing and singing.
“Broodstories”- Hilda van Wyk
There is something to be said about the smell of fresh bread.
For some, it is a reminder of times gone by, of a loving mother or grandmother preparing delicious loaves of home-baked bread. For others, it speaks of their travels abroad or takes them back to their homeland.
Either way, the smell of freshly baked, warm bread has brought many curious people across our doorstep at Broodstories!
We take so much pleasure in presenting our bread to new and old visitors. There is something about the excitement in their eyes when they are holding that warm loaf of sourdough. We love when they share their plans for our labour of love. On rainy days, I like to ask which soup our bread will accompany, and I enjoy hearing the many interesting answers. On sunny days, they are often turned into delicious “braai-broodies.”
Just recently, a customer shared his beautiful recipe for ratatouille with me to be enjoyed with the crusty, warm baguette he just bought. I still haven’t made time to try it, but I think of our conversation every time I take our baguettes from the oven.
Some people cannot wait to rush home and smear a bit (or a lot) of butter on their bread. Others take a bite when they get to the car! On occasion, strangers have shared their enjoyment of our bread and, in one instance, the last challah.
We have found a sense of community through our bread. As Broodstories, we feel that we belong to Kleinmond, and it is an honour that our lovingly prepared sourdough bread is shared with friends and family, gifted on special occasions and sometimes just enjoyed as lunch or dinner.
We hope that this wonderful relationship continues for a long time.
If time allows, when you visit, please share your stories. Tell us what you love.
They are, after all, brood stories!

“What a lovely bakery, with the most friendly owners! Broodstories has the most fantastic range of sourdough bread and pastries. The hot cross buns are delicious, and the ciabatta is lovely! I would highly recommend stopping by their bakery.” Nicola Fouché
“Broodstories se produkte vertel werklik elkeen hul eie storie en is heerlik! My driejarige seuntjie is mal oor die soetbroodjie (appel cinnabuns) en die paprika en kaasbrood is uit die boonste rakke! Welgedaan Broodstories!” Grethe Conradie
“The Broodstories team is passionate about what they do, and it shows in every tasty bread baked. I have been stocking them in my deli for a while now, and I am amazed and happy to see how they have developed. If you see their bread anywhere in the village, grab one. They are super yummy! Well done! Here’s to so many more yummy loaves.” Daniel Fulton
