Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among South African women.
Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep, hard to stay asleep or cause you to wake up too early and not be able to get back to sleep.
The condition can be short-term (acute) or can last a long time (chronic). It may also come and go. Acute insomnia lasts from 1 night to a few weeks. Insomnia is chronic when it happens at least 3 nights a week for 3 months or more.
Short-term insomnia often gets better on its own. Lifestyle changes and improvements to your bedtime routine and bedroom setup can often help:
• Cut back on sodas and chocolate throughout the day. Quit smoking.
• Avoid large meals, caffeine and alcohol before bed.
• Get physically active during the day, outside if possible.
• Go to bed and get up at the same time each day, including over weekends.
• Put away smartphones, TVs, laptops or other screens at least 30 minutes before bedtime.
• Turn your bedroom into a dark, quiet, cool sanctuary.
• Unwind with soothing music, a good book or meditation.
