Conserve - Explore - Experience

Kogelberg Nature Reserve is about 40 km from Cape Town and is South Africa’s first UNESCO biosphere reserve. It covers 103,629 hectares, more than 80% of which consists of mountainous landscapes ranging from high mountain peaks and deep valleys to gentle hills, lower mountain slopes and a historic botanical garden Betty’s Bay. Gentle rolling coastal plains, and a vast marine area, which covers about 24,500 hectares, make up the rest.

Reviews

“The Kogelberg Nature Reserve is a great place to go. We did the Oudebosch - Leopard's Kloof Trail. The trail goes through an indigenous forest and has stunning views with a steep descent towards Betty's Bay.”  Rolf
“A quiet, well preserved natural beauty.”  Jean-Mari
“We did the Palmiet River Walk. The walk rambles along the edge of the Palmiet River for about two hours, but plan for a few hours so you can stop along the way. Take your costume because there are plenty of swimming spots. Beautiful fynbos, so a camera is a must if you love photography. I've done this walk twice, once in winter and once in summer, and the vegetation was different each time.”  Bonnie
“I can highly recommend the Palmiet River Trail. It is pretty flat and follows the contour of the river. There are multiple places to swim along the route but there is a nice little beach section about three to four kilometres into the hike. Be aware that there is not a lot of shade on this hike. I recommend booking your CapeNature permit ahead of time to avoid disappointment at the gate. As always when hiking in the Cape, take water, a hat, sunscreen, warm top, fully-charged cellphone.”  Oliver
“An idyll amongst the majestic mountains of the Kogelberg. Each cabin is different but all are well equipped and most have wonderful views. In my opinion, Marsh Rose has the best view and is set slightly apart from the others.”  Laura
