Our Mission:
The Overberg Cycling Association is dedicated to promoting and developing cycling in the
Overberg region, providing a supportive and inclusive community for cyclists of all levels. Our
mission is to:
- Foster a passion for cycling, encouraging healthy lifestyles and environmental sustainability.
- Develop and maintain safe and accessible cycling infrastructure.
- Provide opportunities for socialization, skill development, and competition.
- Advocate for cycling interests and road safety in our communities.
- Build partnerships with local businesses, and organizations to enhance cycling experiences.
Our Objectives:
- To be and to function as the controlling and administrative body for the sport of Cycling within the area of jurisdiction following sound business principles.
- To encourage, promote, develop, and administer the sport of cycling within the area of jurisdiction by sound administrative principles.
- To encourage, promote, develop, and administer the sport of cycling within the area of jurisdiction following sound financial principles.
- To promote, develop and encourage high-performance cycling as well as cycling for all in all forms of cycling including but not limited to:
- Bicycle Moto-Cross cycling including BMX Super-Cross and BMX Freestyle
- Competitive and Recreational off-road Cycling including Cross Country, Marathon, and Downhill Mountain biking.
- Para-cycling is limited solely to handicapped categories including bicycles, tricycles, hand-cycles, and tandems.
- Competitive and Recreational Road Cycling and Time Trailing.
- Track cycling.
- All Cycling disciplines may present an annual championship and select teams.
- To provide facilities for effective & efficient administration, recreation & competition to Overberg Cycling.
- To encourage, promote, develop, and administer the sport of cycling within the area of jurisdiction to nurture a spirit of friendly, rivalry in competitions, to ensure safe cycling and to protect the interest of cyclists.
- To encourage, promote, develop, and administer the sport of cycling at the Youth/School level within the area of jurisdiction to ensure effective youth cycling.
- To encourage, promote, develop, and administer the sport of cycling within the area of jurisdiction to enforce the rules of Cycling as prescribed by the World Cycling Federation (UCI), CSA, WCC, and OCA and encourage and promote the highest standard of sporting behaviour.
- To encourage, promote, develop, and administer the sport of cycling within the area of jurisdiction to ensure transformation and development.
- To ensure that the encouragement, promotion, development, and administration of the sport of cycling, whether at District or Club level is done following the principles of non-racialism which means that race, ethnicity, and nationality shall not be a basis for discriminating against or of affording privileges to any person or group of persons, which principles are more fully set out in the Code of Conduct of Overberg Cycling Association.
- To ensure that the encouragement, promotion, development, and administration of the sport of Cycling, whether at District or Club level is fairly carried out so that gender, religion or creed or disability shall not be a basis for discrimination against or of affording privileges to any person or group of persons.
- To be a member of WCC, and/or of any other national or provincial sports and other bodies, such as the Council, upon the recommendation of EXCO, may decide to represent cycling.
- To uphold and enforce any code of conduct of the sport of Cycling approved by WCC, and/or any other code of conduct decided upon by Overberg Cycling to ensure the members and disputes maintain Cycling disciplines are resolved within the OCA or referred to the WCC.
- To recognize and accept the jurisdiction, rules, and regulations of the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) and the code of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
