Moerse Lekker

‘Moerse’ is the Afrikaans word for huge and although this charming farm stall in Napier isn't huge in size it does have a ‘moerse’ good vibe! Here you get to enjoy Overberg country living at its best and you will be welcomed with heaps of small-town hospitality. Wholesome farm-fare includes set meals from a blackboard menu and quick on-the-go snacks to take away for ‘padkos’. Moerse Farmstall sells all your farm stall favourites such as bottled preserves, freshly baked bread, crisp biscuits, dippable rusks and hand-crafted gifts. Platters are available by prior arrangement from a convenient catering service offered by this Moerse lekker team. An added bonus is that Tip of Africa Nursery shares the premises so you can shop for everything from colourful clivias to sexy succulents for your garden. Moerse Farmstall seats a total of 25 people and is unlicensed but you are invited to bring your own wine to lunch.

After deciding that his career as a busy banker wasn’t where he wanted to be in his life, Manie Kriel took the plunge and went on pension. A moerse plan was brewing as Manie spent some time sitting alongside the Main Road in Napier to contemplate life and to count the cars that drove through the town. An idea was born and Manie and his wife, Laetitia, began selling delicious farmhouse pies made entirely from scratch and propped full of quality fillings. When they began advertising their Moerse Pies on a sign-board, everyone in the town came to see what they were up to. Manie and Laetitia Kriel officially established Moerse Farmstall in November 1999 and were joined by their son Etienne and his wife Annelene in 2002.

Nowadays the farm stall serves sit-down meals and sells all those farm stall favourites that encompass country living. The plant shop, now proudly named Tip of Africa Nursery, is still run alongside Moerse Farmstall and is especially well-known for the beautiful Clivias that colourfully flower year after year.

“Heerlik gekuier onder bome terwyl ons ontbyt uit die boonste rakke (tuisgemaakte produkte meestal) geëet het! Kuiergas uit Pretoria het pie (lams) en chips gehad wat hy gesê beste pie ooit is. En die koffie! Awesome!” Riana Maree, Facebook
“When you're in the mood for a Sunday Roast and nothing else will do....this is how we felt yesterday when we booked a group table at Moerse. The roast was absolutely fabulous...the meat is done to perfection, SCRUMPTIOUS veggies & yummy gravy. I couldn't get my head around Pumpkin fritters with fudge sauce but OMW, they were fantastic! Dessert was also exceptional. I'd liked to point out that due to changes in our day's plans we were over an hour early for lunch....yet we were made to feel welcome and accommodated easily and with a warm smile by both Anneline and her mom-in-law. Lekker experience. We're going back soon!Dee Neal Robinson, Facebook
“Reminds me of my childhood days visiting my gran on the farm. The chicken pie is to die for definitely worth it.” Anthea Claire Le Roux, Facebook
