Studio98 to be continued in 2022
When we started our gallery a few years ago it was to present our own work. In 2021 we have achieved a lot. ...
Private Gallery Napier presents the works of photographer extraordinaire, Herman van Bon.
For Herman van Bon capturing a landscape is just the beginning. Just as the seasons change in nature, so do his landscapes and subjects, especially when used as a canvas for exploration and experimentation.
Herman uses photo-processing styles to manipulate his work, as well as unique techniques that allow his creations to grow organically. Layer by layer, the original shot metamorphosizes into something truly extraordinary. Textures, tones, figures, symbols and quirky composites create illusions that could very well be figments of the imagination.
Herman’s process is a journey and can take weeks but the result is a contemporary, deeply personal interpretation and a fascinating fantasia of different forms that are far away from ‘just a landscape’. Occasionally Herman uses a technique called ‘fluidization’ on his photos and sometimes, more often than not, it all comes together.
Private Gallery Napier presents the work and collections of celebrated jewellery designer, Yvonne de Wit.
From a young age, Yvonne was encouraged by her father to be aware of her natural surroundings. After moving to South Africa with her husband Herman, Yvonne immediately fell in love with her new environment. Fascination developed into a passion when the couple restored a historical succulent garden to its former glory. During this time she became inspired by the pallet of hues that coloured the country’s diverse landscapes. Collecting stones and soil specimens on her travels became a hobby and after a decade the specimens now form the base for the first of her jewellery ranges.
The first range is inspired by Mother Earth and is referred to by admirers as a pure earth range of jewellery. Yvonne transforms her much-treasured collection of soils and stones into unique objets d'art combining South African sterling silver, copper, brass and other metals.
The second range is her classic yet trendy retro and steampunk collection, created from new metals and at times, scrap materials.
Yvonne's signature pieces of jewellery are uniquely handcrafted in limited editions. Find out more about Yvonne de Wit here.
