Chef Emile Mathys

"Mense moet lekker eet!”

The restaurant's executive chef, Emile Mathys, inherited a talent for cooking from his mom. Emile says she was his superhero! Under her watchful eye, he learned to cook and bake in the family kitchen.

Catering for large groups of hungry people started when Emile was a junior cook in the South African Navy. He then completed his professional chefs' course at Capsicum, where he received his International Chef Diploma in 2010. After that, he had 18 months of practical experience and did his internship at the Western Hotel in Cape Town. 

Emile’s love for cooking has taken him to overseas destinations where he worked in the restaurant industry in Qatar and the Caribbean. After his travels, he returned home to settle in Gordons Bay.

Emile is passionate about what he fondly calls the Gossip Corner dining experience. He says it’s a magnificent combination of art, décor, impeccable service, and irresistible food!

“This restaurant is worth the visit. A lot of time was spent planning the interior, and the positioning of the windows emphasises the view of the Kogelberg Mountain. The iron artwork, view of the kitchen, Churchill dinnerware, gorgeous cutlery and the fine, elegant wine glasses all make it a special experience.
