The restaurant's executive chef, Emile Mathys, inherited his talent for cooking from his mom. Emile says she was his superhero! Under her watchful eye, he learned to cook and bake in the family kitchen.
Catering for large groups of hungry people started when Emile was a junior cook in the South African Navy. He then completed his professional chefs' course at Capsicum, where he received his International chef diploma in 2010. After that, he had 18 months of practical and did his internship at the Western Hotel in Cape Town.
Emile’s love for cooking has taken him to overseas destinations where he worked in the restaurant industry in Qatar and the Caribbean. After his travels, he returned home to settle in Gordons Bay.
Emile is passionate about what he fondly calls the Gossip Corner dining experience. He says it’s a magnificent combination of art, décor, impeccable service, and irresistible food!
When pressed for answers about what’s hot news on the Gossip Corner menu, Emile says that his 12-hour pork belly dish is one of his favourite meals to prepare!
Gossip Corner serves a selection of dishes from the à la carte menu. Daily blackboard specials are available and created according to the chef’s mood and seasonal availability.

The Stone Oven is a private dining area within Gossip Corner’s main restaurant. Specialising in food prepared in a wood-fired oven, expect to feast on delicious slow-cooked food, pizzas and chef’s blackboard recommendations.
Space is limited, and bookings are essential.
