The Fynbos Distillery is located on the picturesque grounds of the historic Sir Robert Stanford Estate which overlooks the peaceful village of Stanford. The old ‘Stookhuis’ is housed in a building that is over a century old. This boutique distillery specialises in handcrafted Grappa and Witblitz which also get used to produce a tantalising selection of infused liqueurs. Relax on an oversized bean bag as you watch the distillers produce the husk spirit in an old-fashioned copper kettle over a wood-burning fire. Old meets new as you are shown the same process using a modern stainless steel still. After distillation, the product is fermented in French oak barrels, distilled in small batches and bottled in elegant glass bottles. The distillery is perfect for small groups of friends wanting a unique and memorable venue to gather at. An interesting selection of cocktails are also served and snack platters can be arranged on request. All the products distilled at Fynbos Distillery are available for sale to the public.

Enjoying leisurely lunches at the Sir Robert Stanford Estate was always a favourite way to spend a Sunday, for well-known celebrity Gigi (winner of Celebrity Survivor Santa Carolina 2010) and her business partner Mike Crole, who loved to spend time holidaying in Gansbaai and surrounds. When they noticed that the old distillery was standing derelict and abandoned, a plan began to formulate. They approached estate owner Jan Malan and soon their dream turned into reality. After a total refurbishment, the old ‘Stookhuis’ was given a new lease on life and now adds to the overall charm and experience when visiting the picturesque Sir Robert Stanford Estate.
