About

“Blessings have been abundant, but where would we be without our 120 million very hardworking Little Helpers. A very special Thank You to them.”  Nadia & Danie Vorster
Image

Although her father, Theunis Engelbrecht, was a commercial beekeeper in the Northern Cape becoming a beekeeper never crossed Nadia's mind.

It was while she was obtaining her bachelor’s in Tourism at Northwest University that Nadia met her future husband Danie Vorster, who was studying Economics at the time. Danie and Nadia’s dad instantly became friends and spent a lot of their time discussing bees and beekeeping.

After Nadia and Danie finished their degrees they spent a year teaching English in Taiwan then took an opportunity to do beekeeping in Canada at Scandia Honey Company. This experience reinforced all the opportunities they saw in South Africa.

Back in South Africa, the couple remained intrigued by the fascinating ways of the tiny honey bee and decided to stay in Douglas with Theunis to learn all of the tricks of the trade. Nadia states that working with her dad was an honour and being able to tap from his years of experience with other South African beekeepers was just priceless.

After Nadia and Danie got married they relocated to the Overberg and established Overberg Honey Co.
