The Rotary Club of Stanford is affiliated with Rotary International.
Founded in 1905 by Chicago attorney Paul P. Harris, Rotary has grown into a global powerhouse of goodwill and service. Today, it boasts over 1.2 million members across 200 countries, united by a shared commitment to making a difference.
With more than 16 million volunteer hours contributed annually - a number that keeps growing - Rotary International is a testament to the power of collective action and community spirit.
The Rotary Club of Stanford is committed to various projects. These include:
Four soup kitchens feed over 500 underprivileged elders, children and unemployed Stanford residents.
When the soup kitchen closes for the festive season, Bags of Love provides an estimated 300 Christmas grocery gift bags to families who need a helping hand.
The team collects blankets and clothing year-round, distributing them where they are needed most every May.
This ensures those in need have extra warmth during the harsh winter months.
This long-standing swimming event sees participants braving the cold water of the Klein Rivier for a good cause.
There are two teams: the Plunging Penguins and the Cheering Chickens. All monies raised go towards funding for the Stanford soup kitchens.
This project strives to light up the lives of the community living in informal settlements with no electricity.
For some, this is the only safe source of light to study or cook with and helps to prevent shack fires.
Rotary International Stanford founded the swap shop and later gifted it to the community.
The Rotary remains a proud supporter of the shop.
