Unwine’d In Nature

Stanford Hills Estate stretches lazily across the slopes of the picturesque Klein River Mountain Range and offers nature lovers a choice between a large, sprawling, self-catering Manor House and two petite, self-catering cottages. The Homestead (Manor House) sleeps 11, while Brunia and Sylvia Cottage each sleep four guests. Visitors can enjoy a laid-back experience on the lawns overlooking the farm’s large dam where lazy days can be spent swimming and canoeing. The more energetic can explore the many farm trails that criss-cross the Stanford valley, on foot, bike, or by horseback. For those days when the family chef needs a break from kitchen duties, there is The Tasting Room Restaurant that is conveniently located on the Estate. Here, guests can enjoy hearty breakfasts, wholesome lunches and wine tasting throughout the week. Children and pets are welcome and Estate accommodation is wheelchair friendly.

The original old farmhouse has stood the test of time and is steeped in a rich history that spans over 160 years. Believed to have been built by the founder of Stanford, Phillippus de Bruyn, shortly after he obtained the farm in 1855, it went on to become a school for girls in the 1890’s. Over the years Stanford Hills Estate changed hands numerous times until it was purchased by Jami and Peter Kastner in 2005.

This sprawling, five bedroom manor house sleeps 11 people and has a wonderful outside entertainment area with a large private swimming pool, a boules/ petanque court and braai facilities.

The heart of the house consists of a large kitchen, dining area, lounge and library.

The kitchen has its own scullery and is fully equipped with enough fridge and freezer space to stock all your supplies for an extended stay. There is a gas stove, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine.

The dining area has a large wooden table that is just begging for celebration dinners.

The large lounge is comfortably furnished and has an authentic manor house feel with its oversized leather couches and indoor fireplace. There are French doors that lead to a patio that divides the two main living areas of the main house.

A well-stocked bookcase laden with books awaits guests who enjoy reading.

The Manor House has a total of five bedrooms, two of which are located in the east wing, and two in the west wing. There is an additional room with its own entrance next to the swimming pool.

The upstairs bedroom in the east wing has a loft-like feel and the small balcony offers guests a magnificent view over the farm dam and the Stanford valley that surrounds it. This room has a Queen-size bed.

The second bedroom is accessible from the inside as well as the outside of the house and has two single beds that can be moved together to form a King-sized bed.

These two bedrooms share a spacious guest bathroom that has a bath, shower, double basin, a bidet and a toilet.

The main room in the west wing has a Queen-size bed and the ensuite bathroom has a bath, shower, his and hers basin, a bidet and a toilet.

The second bedroom has a double bunk and a single bed and shares the main room’s bathroom.

The bedroom that is separate from the house, and is located next to the swimming pool, has its own entrance. There is a Queen-size bed and the ensuite bathroom has a shower, basin and toilet.
