Khula Learning Centre Swellendam uses Impaq Online School’s products and services.
Impaq is a CAPS-based curriculum that provides an academic framework, allowing each learner to work at their own pace. With this curriculum, learners can Matriculate as homeschoolers, or return to a mainstream school at any stage of their schooling career.
The centre is committed to inclusivity and welcomes learners from all backgrounds, including those who may face challenges related to neurodiversity.
A dedicated team ensures every child receives the attention and support they need to thrive academically and socially.
Khula Learning Centre Swellendam operates on a 10-week term schedule, closely aligning with the planning frameworks of the Department of Basic Education and Impaq.
Khula Learning Centre’s staff includes directors, qualified teachers and assistant tutors.
“I am a mother of three, with my two older boys diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Over the years, I have immersed myself in learning about the autism spectrum and neurodivergence.
My husband and I have worked tirelessly to find the best ways for our boys to thrive and for our family to function harmoniously. We have consulted numerous professionals, including paediatricians, psychologists, and psychiatrists, each contributing to my understanding. This knowledge has helped us navigate our journey.
While both boys began in mainstream schools, our younger son experienced frequent shutdowns, making it impossible for him to engage at school.
My friend and business partner Joanne Human, who has a neurodivergent child, looked for alternatives for our children. Our search led us to Khula Learning Centre Bredasdorp. This discovery opened up a whole new world of possibilities, providing us with the support our children needed to succeed.
Eager to start a much-needed learning centre in Swellendam, we followed the Impaq Online School’s business model and opened Khula Learning Centre Swellendam.
I am passionate about helping other parents faced with similar challenges and use my skills to assist other families on their journeys.”
“My friend and business partner Mariëtte Barry and I followed the Impaq Online School’s business model to achieve our goal of opening a learning centre.
As a mother of four children, one being neurodivergent, I wanted a schooling alternative. I am interested in child psychology and am passionate about alternative education models where children benefit academically, socially, and emotionally.
My responsibilities are to oversee the emotional needs of our learners and tutors, communicate with parents, find new alternatives and solutions, and do daily business management. My love for people and children, organisation skills, passion, drive, and empathy are traits that help me.”
In my free time, I enjoy being a homemaker, being creative, spending time with friends and family, and exploring.”
“I have been teaching in the Foundation Phase for about ten years and find it extremely rewarding to watch children grow and learn as much as they do in their early stages of life. Helping them thrive and become the best version of themselves is my passion.
When I am not teaching I love being outdoors and enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and riding my horse.”
“I studied for my B. Ed Foundation Phase through UNISA and have been an educator for about ten years.
Dedicated to my profession, I am delighted when learners find growth and accomplishment in my care.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my husband and our twins.”
“I am an online student studying BED Intermediate Phase at North-West University. Before being an assistant tutor, I was an AuPair in America for a year.
A philosophy I like is that teaching is more than imparting knowledge, it is inspiring change. Learning is more than absorbing facts, it is acquiring understanding.”
