Inspired by the silvery glow of the Langeberg, Silver Mountain Music is a celebration of music and nature in the Grootvadersbosch Valley. The natural beauty of the area is coupled with a rich cultural heritage and genuine rural hospitality. We are proud to launch the second year of this festival.

Silver Mountain Music will begin on Thursday 15th June with a lively evening of music in the spectacular Schoone Oordt Country House in Swellendam. The programme, lead by Samson Diamond,  includes String Trios by Beethoven and Kodaly. Friday will include youth day celebrations in Heidelberg with bike rides and music workshops. An evening concert of legends will include a nature talk and a concert of favourite movie themes, for Violin and Piano, with Richard Cock, performed by Samson Diamond and Grethe Nöthling at Strawberry Hill. Saturday features a fabulous percussion concert with Magda de Vries at Honeywood Farm, including a talk by clock peaks coffee and the wonder of bees. Saturday's afternoon concert is a magical musical experience in a farm shed in the mountains with Richard Cock and the Cape Town orchestra. The concert will feature South African stars, such as Nicholas Nicolaidis (Tenor), Magda de Vries (Marimba) and Samson Diamond (Violin). The Programme will include songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, as well as favourite instrumental music by Vivaldi and some surprises. The final concert, on Sunday, will be a massed choir and orchestra concert in Heidelberg.

In addition to multiple concerts, the weekend will include activities that showcase local cuisine and natural attractions including, a guided dairy tour, milk tasting, beer tour, guided forest walks, coffee and beer tasting. The weekend is a perfect long weekend winter break and the event should not be missed. 

A full festival pass for Adults is R850 and children R400. This gives you access to all the events. Alternatively, you can purchase individual tickets for each event.

A Celebration of Youth| 9am | Heidelberg 

A full day of youth celebration and activities with a focus on the rural community of Heidelberg. Richard Cock will work with the local schools, running musical workshops to inspire the youth. These will be presented by member of the Odeion String Quartet and Magda de Vries (Marimba and percussion specialist). This will be combined with other youth focused activities, including a fun ride at the Grootvadersbosch Conservancy mountain bike track in Heidelberg.

Guided tour with the local community | 9am | Various locations

The conservancy has recently trained 12 hiking guides from the local community. Enjoy a fascinating walk in the forests of Grootvadersbosch Conservancy or a wander around the scenic village of Suurbraak. Tours can be tailored to your group's requirements. R60 a person R35 kids (under 14). Minimum 4 people per tour.

Milk Tasting and Cheese Factory Tours | 1:30pm | Fleckvieh Guestfarm & Langeberg Kaas MEET AT Fleckvieh.

Experience life on a real diary farm and learn some special secrets about the magical goodness of milk and how it becomes cheese. Includes milk and cheese tasting. R60 adults R35 kids (under 14).

Legends of Grootvadersbosch: Nature Tour with Chris Martens | 4:30pm | Strawberry Hill Farm

A sunset walk and talk with renowned naturalist and local legend, Chris Martens. R60 adults R35 kids (under 14).​

Movie Legends Concert with Richard Cock and Samson Diamond | 7:00pm | Strawberry Hill Farm 

The walk and talk will be followed by a concert of favourite movie themes, for Violin and Piano, performed by Samson Diamond and Grethe Nöthling. This concert received ‘rave reviews’ at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown last year. The concert includes such favourites as Il Postino, Ladies in Lavender, Schindler’s List and Fiddler on the Roof. Includes a glass of Saggy Stone beer. R160 adults R100 kids (under 14).

Sunrise Coffee and rusks | 8:30am | Honeywood farm Join local coffee roaster Bert Pienaar from Clocks Peak Coffee Roasters for a fascinating insight into the wonders of coffee. Includes coffee tasting. R60 adults R35 kids (under 14).​  

Morning Marimba | 9:30am | Honeywood farm Join Magda de Vries for a morning Marimba concert. Her concert will include a selection of different music genres including some classical and more contemporary. Enjoy the ‘Flight of the Bumble Bee’ and other well known pieces after a delicious local coffee blend and before a fascinating tour on the honey farm. R100 Adults R60 kids (under 14).

The Wonder of Bees | 10:30am | Honeywood farm with renowned Beekeeper, John Moodie at Honeywood Farm, followed by a local tea and cake. Learn about bees and bee keeping in a fabulous setting on this beautiful family farm. R60 adults R35 kids (under 14).​ Lunch available on request.

Depending on numbers lunch can be arranged through Honeywood which can be enjoyed before the afternoon concert and walk.

Forest Conservation Walk | 1:00pm | Grootvadersbosch Conservancy Office.

Enjoy a guided forest walk with renowned forest ecologist Prof Coert Geldenhuys. Learn how invasive alien trees can be used to regenerate forests. R60. R35 kids (under 14).​ Includes an indigenous tree from our nursery to plant or take home.


​Richard Cock and Silver Mountain Festival Orchestra | 3:00pm | Grootvadersbosch Conservancy: Venue To Be confirmed . CASH BAR Drink some Robertson wine, SaggyStone beer or Clocks Peak Coffee and soak up the atmosphere, while the sun sets on silver mountains. A magical musical experience in a farm shed in the mountains. The concert will feature South African stars, such as Nicholas Nicolaidis (Tenor), Magda de Vries (Marimba) and Samson Diamond (Violin). The Programme will include songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, as well as favourite instrumental music by Vivaldi and some surprises. The afternoon includes the sale/tastings of local farm produce and cuisine. Concert: R160 adults R100 kids (Below 5 are free).

Heidelberg Rejoice: Church Choral Concert with Richard Cock and Ricardo Januarie | 3pm Heidelberg Congregational Church.

Musical selections performed by the Silver Mountain Music Festival Orchestra and the Heidelberg Rejoice Choir. Music from the heart speaks to the soul. A community celebrating the Life of Christ by singing hymns of praise and worship. Last year this emotional event brought the audience to their feet and tears to the eyes of many who attended. Do not miss this powerful experience.
