Monitoring Framework 2023 - Challenge Money

Just an update regarding the money that has been spent.

A: Strategic objectives for the year with regards to using the donor money at the school:

Ongoing Operations

1. Sneakers for the netball girls

2. Stationary for the Mooiuitsig kids

3. Winter school clothes for kids

4. Mini science lab visit

5. Funding for the kids whose parents can't afford the school fees

Long Term Objectives

We are investigating various additional activities to support the children, including the following.

1. Afterschool care centre for the community.

Since we still struggle with the upgrading/fixing of the Community Hall we have started with learn-to-read programs with the Mooiuitsig kids in our Gr. R class.

Five second-hand laptops have been donated and we are assisting the children now with their school assignments.

2. We have upgraded our internet to provide internet for the kids.

3. We bought mice for the laptops.

4. Bought a security camera and will be installed.

5. Learn to read Afrikaans

6. Learn to read English

7. Printer for afterschool children

B: Narrative:

Bus:

Every year during the December holiday we took the bus to somebody in Pringle Bay to touch up the rust and buff the bus to protect it.

This year we will have to buy new tyres for the bus.

Our licence has to be renewed with its roadworthy test, as well as our PDP licence.

Salary:

Salary for a permanent Gr. R teacher has been paid.

Wendy House:

We had to break down the old Wendy which was in the area where our new kitchen was built. It has been there for 15 years and is really not in a safe condition. We bought a new Nutec Wendy.

We gave it an undercoat and painted it. The wooden frames and window frames have been treated as well.

Capital Expenses:

Maintenance of the school is also an ongoing expense to us. Although the premises and building belong to the Municipality, they do not contribute towards the maintenance of the school. More and more parents can’t contribute towards the monthly school fees due to the lack of work in Betty’s Bay.

Our big swing which is also over 12 years old has finally rusted through and has been replaced.

Due to the fact that all our props for our concerts have been stored in the building shacks during the building of our kitchen and with all the rain, we had a very big loss in stuff that got wet and we had to throw away. We bought 15 large plastic containers with lids to store the remaining stuff.

Our learn-to-read ladies (2) are travelling weekly to the school to help the children and we will be giving them R500 each for their fuel allowance for the year.

We painted and fixed one of the rooms where the old Clinic was in the Community Hall to start with the internet for the kids and then afterwards the Municipality said we can’t continue being there due to the fact that the hall is unsafe.

We had to replace the fence behind the school after they took the old rusted one down for entry to build the new kitchen.

Sustainability Fund:

For the past 5 years, we manage to put R20 000 each year into an investment account.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES:

Various business plans are being investigated to decide on the viability of various projects.

BUILDING NEW ENTRANCE TO THE SCHOOL

This is another project that we are busy planning. The current entrance is collapsing and the kids jump over the gate during the afternoons and weekends to come and play in the school’s play area. The gate has also been rusted through. This must still be done, we are waiting for the summer to start with this project.

Thank you once again for your donations and support. We appreciate it very much.

We would love each and every one of you to come and visit us and see what we are busy with and how we have spent your money.
