In this month's newsletter, we celebrate our remarkable alumni, including three former Pikkewyntjies kids.
As the Premier keeps reminding us, we can’t relax our vigilance because the province seems to be on top of COVID and the little Pikkewyntjies don’t live at school, but they are all safe and well - so far.
They all know how to protect themselves - there’s a board of pictures in the classroom to remind them. It’s difficult to drive the lesson home to the junior class, some of whom are only two years old but Christen with infinite patience reminds them every day.
In the early morning when Juffrou Zaan picks up the children in Hangklip and Pringle Bay they know to sit apart, masks on but they understand why it’s necessary and that most of us find it uncomfortable.
They each have two masks made for them by the ‘Rooi Els Maskers’ which they wear when they are out and about but they fiddle with them so much when they are in the classroom it was decided it was safer to provide them with shields which can be sanitised. Each one has the owner’s name on it so there is no sharing.
Something which has a profound influence on our children’s world view is that they frequently experience interest in their well being and affection from members of the community. Nobody does it out of charity, expecting grovelling thanks. They do it for sweet, unspoiled children who thoroughly enjoy anything and everything.
Recently, Maddy and Robin Starey of St Francis Anglican Church brought cake for the children which they tucked into with relish. Thank you for baking for them, Maddy and to you both for bringing them a ‘special spoiling’.
