This a cappella vocal group consists of 12 members who have been performing since 2004. Their repertoire includes a variety of music styles, although the focus is on madrigals. Although most of the music is written for four voice parts, some of the compositions demand up to eight parts. Since their foundation, they try to share their passion for enjoyable music-making with as many people as possible.
The Madrigal Singers regularly perform at church services, weddings, social functions and their performances are well-known for a pleasant atmosphere. Last year they were invited to take part in The King’s Singers 50th Anniversary Concert in Carnegie Hall in New York, a personal highlight for the group. Earlier this year they took part in the opening service of the Synod for Dutch Reformed Churches in the Western Cape.
Elsje Kemp joined the Stellenbosch Madrigal Singers in 2011 and has been the musical leader of the group since 2014. She has been singing in Canticum Novum (the Stellenbosch student church choir), and several other ad hoc choirs and singing groups. She is a business analyst who invests her piano and vocal talents for the promotion and enjoyment of music.
