The garden is one of the oldest in South Africa and until recently hosted one of the most celebrated wildflower shows on the planet.
Forming part of the nature reserve on the Swartberg Mountain north of Caledon, the garden is included in the Klein Swartberg Conservancy, which is known to be home to one of the largest collections of heather, about 234 species, most of which is the dainty Erica jasminiflora.
The Caledon Wildflower Garden is perfect for the following activities:
The Caledon Wildflower Garden has the following amenities:
“The jewel of the Overberg! This beautiful garden and reserve is being carefully restored to its former glory but has rustic, raw magic you have to experience for yourself to understand.” Grant Kimber
“A wonderful place just off the N2. Beautiful proteas and the biggest “spekboom” I've ever seen. Free entry.” Rishad Omar
“Walkways are clear and plentiful, with more being cleared. There is a nice mix of cycads, succulents and fynbos. We visited on a hot day and it was great to find some benches and sit in the shade enjoying my takeaway lunch from earlier in the journey. A great stop on the way to Swellendam.” Moz Du R
