If you take the N2 national road directions to Caledon, you are welcomed to this agriculturally rich town by the mesmerizing sight of giant wind turbines that tower gracefully over rolling patchwork blankets of grain fields. Come late winter, early spring, most of this farming territory is anointed with vibrant yellow canola blossoms for as far as the eye can see.
Since the early days when Khoisan tribes roamed the area, Caledon’s seven iron-rich hot springs on the slopes of the Swartberg, have been a drawcard for visitors seeking relaxation and natural therapies. Other historical facts about Caledon are that it is the official capital of the Overberg as well as the seventh oldest town in South Africa.
