First Thursdays: 7 September 2023

Exciting news! 'First Thursdays' are back at Afrikanos this September and we're planning an awesome evening packed with art and music.

SAVE THE DATE! 07 September 2023 from 18:00.

The 'First Thursdays' initiative is equally about access to the arts as it is about injecting life into our spaces. Our concept is to provide local artists and musicians a platform to showcase their talents in a comfortable, casual environment, after hours.

Music by Jacana!

Now we couldn't kick off our first event without Jacana rocking the stage!

Jacana needs no introduction to the Overberg live music scene.

They've played on numerous stages at a variety of festivals and live music venues including The Stanford Festival, the Greenpop Reforest Fest, The Harvest Saloon, Stanford Hills Estate, and Lomond Wine Estate to name just a few.

Exhibitions by:

Deon Futerman

Having felt a profound connection to the natural environment since early childhood, Dion Futerman finds inspiration in his emotional response to nature, the landscape, and music and poetry.

In 2018, Dion began working as a full-time professional artist and has participated in numerous exhibitions. He has various artworks in private collections around the world including South Africa, the USA, the UK, Australia, Monaco, Denmark, and France to name a few.

Marcel Van Geems

Marcél van Geems works with a variety of mediums including pencil, oil, and acrylic paint

He started drawing pencil sketches at four years of age. Since then he has spent a lot of time to progress his art with the main focus to tell a story by using only symbolism and perfecting his composition. His technique tends to surrealism and realism apart from his symbolic artworks.

Hester Coetzee

Hester Coetzee's voice of expression is in painting beautiful, elegant, timeless pieces.

She's worked with pencil, pen, pastels, acryl, watercolours, ink, oil, and fluid acrylics.

Her preferred medium, however, is oil.

The desire to add more spice to her life and the deep desire for even greater self-growth has transported her to her new environment Franskraal, the perfect setting for a soft, easy, tranquil, expansive life pursuing her passion for creating beautiful, elegant, timeless art.

Turchia Africa

Turchia Africa has always had a passion for art.

She relocated to Pearly Beach from Cape Town and despite the challenges of the pandemic, it created an opportunity for her to re-light her passion and to start painting again.

Apart from acrylics, her work includes creating a variety of textured artworks.

Ingrid Zovitsky

Ingrid Zovitsky is a South African-born mixed-medium artist. She has spent the past 30 years developing her passion for art while teaching art classes to various age groups.

Ingrid Zovitsky spent 8 years overseas before returning home to South Africa. Her work was extremely well received in Europe as well as the U.S., selling paintings on a regular basis to various collectors and art lovers.

Ingrid has settled in De Kelders where she continues to paint and host children's art classes.

Blue de Gersigny
@plasticsareforever

Blue is a local resident who will be exhibiting her unique artwork created almost entirely from unaltered beach plastic that is collected along our coastline.

Blue has exhibited at a variety of galleries including very successful exhibitions with the Hermanus FynArts Gallery and Art4Heart.

Belinda Ann Burchell

Belinda has been an art and design teacher for 21 years while continuing to paint in her spare time.

Her experience over the years has included mural painting, stage design, and set painting for which she has received numerous awards.

"By being open to the differences existing between fine art and design, I allowed my experiences of both to flow together and found the result to be illustrations, some of which will be represented here."

Linda Pretorius

Linda Pretorius (nee Budde) is a self-taught artist from De Kelders. Linda's preferred medium is oils and draws her inspiration from the beautiful surroundings.

Linda has been exhibiting with us since the beginning of our 'First Thursdays' concept and continues to bring in new and exciting artworks every month.
