Tannie Anna of Anna’s Pies is a self-taught baker who mixed her first cake batter with a vintage egg-beater and baked it in an old-fashioned gas oven.
She went on to win the floating trophy for the best cake, awarded to her twice by the VLV (Vroue-Landbouvereniging van Kaapland). Over the years, the winning cakes (a melt-in-the-mouth vanilla cream and a wholesome carrot cake) have remained a firm favourite and are top sellers in the Gansbaai shop.
