Wikus Bierman founded the Bierman Group when he opened his first practice in Kraaifontein, in 2001.
The practice was so well received by the community that Wikus decided to open a second branch a few years later, this time in Vredendal.

Optometrist Liandri Malan is the director of Bierman Malan Optometrists in Gansbaai, Hermanus and Whale Coast Mall.
Liandri hails from Bloemfontein and studied optometry at UFS (University of Free State) in 2007.
On completing her studies, she expanded her horizons in the Eastern Cape and further afield internationally to Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. After practising in Cape Town’s Northern suburbs, she settled in Hermanus.
After a stint as a science teacher, she locummed for the Bierman Britz practice run by Lizette Britz and leapt at the chance to take ownership when Lizette sold the business.
Dewald van Heerden studied optometry at the University of the Free State in 2017. After graduation, he practised in Ermelo, Kimberley and Upington.
In 2021 Dewald moved to Gansbaai to join the Bierman Malan group.
Dewald loves the Overstrand's relaxed vibe and when he isn’t keeping the eyesight of the community in check, he enjoys fishing.
He is an avid Tug-of-War athlete and competes on national and international levels.
