Located inconspicuously on the cusp of Gansbaai’s residential area, you may just overlook the beautiful limestone cottage that has been standing strong since 1928. For visitors new to the town it is likely that you could drive past the historical cottage more than once when looking for the entrance, but once inside you’ll never do so again. You are immediately made to feel at home as you are greeted with a welcoming smile.

The interior décor of Blue Goose is an amalgamation of modern and contemporary artworks blended with old school rustic furniture, that compliment each other in a highly pleasing way. I’ve often seen  patrons wandering about, bewildered by the antique dressers (one of which is a century old), astounded by the local artwork showcased on the walls and being downright envious of the designer potted plants festooned throughout the premises. Blue Goose passionately boasts style and class, yet whispers a good ol’ time with the gang.

The cuisine on offer is on par with fare you’d expect to find in top dining establishments in the Mother City, but at a price where you can afford to keep your internal organs where they are. In my first hand experience as a waiter at Blue Goose, the food has always been a winner with those with the need to feed.  There is something to tantalize everyone's taste buds including vegetarians, vegans and those following an halaal diet and the menu boasts favourites such as the succulent pork spare ribs and ‘fresh from the sea’ seafood espetada.

Established in 2012, Blue Goose has amassed what can only be called a foodie fan club with guests from all walks of life and travellers from right around the globe often reserving tables months in advance. With owner Riaan Franken at the helm and a kitchen staff that has been with him since the start, there is no chance of failure.

On a service level Blue Goose proudly shines, the front of house staff are among the most well trained that I have had the pleasure of working with. There is effortless speed and grace in the manner in which servers carry themselves, yet it is not uncommon to see them having an informative conversation with guests about the local attractions and activities available for visitors to Gansbaai. It is undoubtedly the personal connection between diners and staff that adds to the restaurants unique atmosphere and you will always feel at home when you visit Blue Goose.
