Welcome to your spiritual home from home
Bodhi Khaya is a peaceful haven that offers retreats covering everything from Art to Zen. Nestled at the foot of the Witkransberg in the beautiful Overberg region, Bodhi Khaya boasts 217 hectares of indigenous fynbos and milkwood forest. Connect with nature, kindred spirits, your own heart. Only two hours from Cape Town, Bodhi Khaya is a welcoming spiritual home to all.
Bodhi Khaya blends Buddhism with South African culture. ‘Bodhi’ means ‘awareness’ in Sanskrit and refers to the Buddha’s knowledge when he attained enlightenment 2500 years ago, while ‘khaya’ goes beyond its better-known meaning of ‘home’ to express a sense of belonging and a spiritual base.
Building on the traditions of our physical and spiritual ancestors, Bodhi Khaya is a spiritual haven for those on their journey to awakening.

Practice, Play, Relax
At Bodhi Khaya there is plenty of space and opportunity to practice your yoga, deepen your meditation, or simply be at one with nature.
The beautiful meditation hall provides a tranquil, contemplative space. The hall was blessed by Tenzin Palmo and is a safe, nurturing space for your practice. Outside of scheduled retreat times, you are welcome to join the staff of Bodhi Khaya for our daily morning meditation. Guided meditations are available on request.
Beside the Meditation Hall and Labyrinth are two beautiful swimming dams. The first is a Lilly dam where you can bathe in the beauty of the lilies. The second dam is a tranquil and water hole that you may have to share with swallows at the end of a hot summer's day.
Bodhi Khaya Labyrinth
Bodhi Khaya's Labyrinth is exquisitely crafted inharmony with the floral eco-system, and incorporates fynbos, aloes and other indegenous plants within its rings. It was built by Ambe McIntyre and Jesse Jessup, and is lovingly maintained by all staff members. Situated directly under the powerful mountain and surrounded by protective trees, this particular Labyrinth invites you to consiously connect with the earth and elements as you walk inwards to centre.
Bodhi Khaya Hiking Trails
Winding through 217 Hectares of pristine Fynbos and Milkwood forests are 6 magical hiking trails. You can wander through an ancient forest and meditate under the old milkwood tree that’s been around for decades. Or follow the Farm Loop trail along the top of the farm for spectacular views of the valley, and catch a glimpse of the ocean in the far distance. Discover meditation circles and ponds in secluded nooks in the forest; and gaze in wonder at the wild pincushions and proteas turning the hills orange in spring. Have a swim in the many dams along the way. Each trail has its own character, as it meanders through a different section of the farm.
The courtyard rooms are new and modern, and are conveniently situated close to both the Meditation Hall and the main Dining Room.
Each room is a twin, with an en suite bathroom. We have named them after the beautiful flowers growing in the garden: Orchid, Poppy, Fern, Wild Olive, Erica and Morning Glory.
Also on the Courtyard, is Garden Room, a luxurious double room, with a king-size bed, a Victorian bath and open plan bathroom. This beautifully restored building used to be the old dairy and has high ceilings with rustic wooden rafters and a working fireplace.
The Farmhouse is a beautifully restored home dating back to the 1820s. The Cape Dutch style architecture with low ceilings and cosy fireplaces will transport you back to a time when people sat down together for meals and gathered around the fireplace to share their stories at night.
Aloe Dorm and Daisy Dorm are 5-bed and 3-bed rooms. Ideal for friends who want to catch up (if not a silent retreat of course!) Aloe Dorm has its own fireplace, en suite bathroom with two showers and a separate entrance leading to the lush garden. Daisy Dorm has a bathroom across the passage.
Restio is a single room in the farmhouse with a window overlooking the back garden. This is our only single room and is in high demand.
Disa is a twin room with fireplace. Once the farmhouse kitchen, the room was perfectly renovated to create a peaceful space while still retaining the original room’s features.
Pincushion is our deluxe room with a Queen-size bed and en suite shower. This room is ideal for couples.
Bodhi Khaya has three self-catering cottages, each with glorious views of the farm. Perfect for small groups who would like to run their own retreat or individuals who prefer to self-cater. The cottages are reserved for retreats, usually on weekends, but are available most week days. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to check availability.
Sunbird sleeps four with a shower and toilet in the house, and an outdoor bath on the stoep overlooking the breath-taking Uilkraal Valley. There are two single beds in each room which can be converted to King-size beds on request.
Heron is our hiking cottage for the popular Walker Bay Fynbos Trail (www.walkerbaytrails.co.za). The cottage has three en suite bedrooms, each with two single beds which can be converted to King-size beds on request. The cottage has a spacious lounge and dining room area with a working fireplace and a fully equipped kitchen. The stoep has a beautiful view of the farm where you can recline on a wooden couch, undisturbed.
