Intensive workshop with Beverly Allen

Join a five day intensive workshop to build watercolour skills for botanical painting on paper and enjoy demonstrations of drawing and painting techniques from initial washes and layering to dry brush detail and finishing. Working on one subject there will be an emphasis on close observation and accurate drawing from life. The many subtle variations in colour achieved through mixing and layering and their use in creating tonal changes to indicate form will be explored, along with the importance of light in rendering textures and in creating a three dimensional painting.

Cost: R6500 pp

This fee includes light lunch, but not accommodation.

About Beverly Allen

Beverly Allen is a renowned botanical artist from Australia who actively participates in international exhibitions and has worked in many prestigious private collections. With a background in graphic design, she shifted to botanical art in 1997 and in 2007 she was awarded a gold medal at the Royal Horticultural Society botanical art exhibition. She has contributed to HRH King Charles’s Highgrove and Transylvania florilegia, and she co-founded the Florilegium Society at the Royal Botanical Gardens Sydney. She was president of the society until 2021 and in this time the society published The Florilegium: Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney: Celebrating 200 years, and Botanic Endeavour: The Florilegium Society celebrates the Banks and Solander Collections. Beverly still serves on the committee of the Florilegium Society at the Royal Botanical Gardens Sydney, and is an Honorary Member of the Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium Society and the Botanical Art Society of Australia. She is also a Patron of the Hampton Court Palace Florilegium Society.
